Potsdam palace San Souci

Summer is the best time to skip from the city jungles to some interesting suburban locations. I'll suggest taking a bike trip to Potsdam area with historical palaces and parks. The most important milestone there is famous San Souci residence, built for German Emperor Friedrich the Great in the XVIII century. The great architectural ensemble consists of the beautiful palace, Baroque garden, orangery, Chinese Tee house and many other interesting locations to spend a great time. You might like to visit the palace to find out more about the Potsdam Conference 1945 indoors the main palace or visit the new palace with its art exhibitions. The combo ticket for the whole area costs 19 Euro but visiting the Baroque garden with its grape terraces is for free.

Visit the legendary Babelsberg Film Studio

The legendary Babelsberg film studio is located in the small suburban town between Potsdam and Berlin. It's the oldest large-scale film studio in the world, producing films since 1912. With the films like Metropolis, The Blue Angel and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari this location gave a birth to the European cinematography, in particular to the expressionism in cinema. The studio is still actively producing such great modern movies as Hotel Grand Budapest, Inglorious Bastards, and Captain America. With a 25 Euro entry card, you can visit the studio and take a look on many of these set locations with decorations, find out more about FX in cinema and make some photos of your favourite movie heroes wax copies. The film park is definitely worth visiting for the cinema fans.

Coffee in the Dragon House

Park Sansouci is a great example of baroque gardening an has a lot of hidden pavillions and Chinese towers. Drachenhaus is one of the most authentic one. It was designed for Emperor Friedrich the Grear as Ta-Ho-pagoda with a great view over the park. Nowadays, Sansouci visitors are enjoying coffee and delicious food at this viewpoint near the Orangerie. The restaurant is serving a huge variety of dishes from European and Asian cuisines. Prices for food are above average but the food is delicious. The combination of coffee and their special cakes shouldn't be over 8 Euro, including a great view over the park.
