New York City has so many amazing museums, it's hard to recommend just one. But the New offers exhibitions like no other, so we chose this one. French restaurant Maison Kayser is among the more affordable French cuisines that don't skip out on quality, and I love that they're BYOB. Finally, the iconic cobblestone Stone Street gives FiDi (the Financial District) life and it's one of the best places in the city for a proper bar hopping experience (Underdog has some of the best cocktails in all of New York City if you're into that too).

Dinner and BYOB at Maison Kayser

Compared to cities like Philadelphia, Chicago, and even San Francisco, New York City has a dearth of BYOB restaurants“ it's almost cruel, if you ask me. That's why I made sure to include Maison Kayser, a chain of award-winning boulangeries that started in Paris in the late 90's and has close to 100 locations worldwide now.Now that they have over 15 different locations in New York City, Maison Kayser could've easily gotten a liquor license to capitalize on wine and liquor sales, but thankfully have chosen not to year after year. Maison Kayser is most well-known for their delectable pastries and fresh baguettes, but their food menu is nothing to scoff at, either. The Union Square location has a big dining room, outdoor seating, and serves brunch, lunch, and dinner. One of the best parts about Maison Kayser, though, is that their bakeries take almost all the attention – especially at the Union Square location – so there's practically never a wait for a table (no reservations allowed, either) – it's a hidden gem in plain sight. I recommend any of the tartines (my favorite is the smoked salmon), for a filling meal that'll cost you less than $20. But don't forget to grab your favorite $3 bottle of wine on the way, to pair with those tartines and bottomless bread baskets.

From the New Museum, we recommend taking the 6 subway line from Spring St. station in the Uptown direction to Union Square, taking you right outside Maison Kayser on Broadway. Union Square also has many other connecting subway lines, including the 4, 5, L, N, Q, R and W.

    BYOB for drinks.
  • Fun fact / Local tip
Although French restaurant Maison Kayser has several locations across NYC, year after year they choose not to obtain a liquor license, instead preferring customers to BYOB – something we can all get behind.

Stone St. Bar Hopping

In a narrow, cobblestone road tucked away in FiDi lies Stone Street, packed to the brim with 13 different pubs, wine bars and taquerias on that one street. FiDi has an often unfair perception by New Yorkers, tainted by the cold-hearted, unfriendly Wall St. vibes everywhere. Old school Stone Street, though, singlehandedly makes up for that. Stone Street offers a microcosm of a bar hopping experience, where you can stop by 10+ bars all in one street conveniently blocked from traffic, and each one of them has something different to offer. Take Underdog for example, a personal favorite of mine. A criminally underrated bar, you can stay on the main level for great beers & modern pub food, or you can go downstairs for their fantastic cocktails, which is their bread & butter. Not to mention, downstairs they have an eclectic collection of vinyl they're constantly spinning, and they even take unwanted record donations for a free drink! After visiting Underdog, make sure to grab a drink at Stone Street Tavern, a laid back locale with a low-key vibe and refreshing drinks. If you're looking something other than beer & cocktails though, don't miss Vintry Wine & Whiskey, which focuses on – you guessed it – wine & whiskey. Vintry is a speakeasy style bar, with over 50 wines by the glass, and another 500 (!) by the bottle. Their whiskey selection is from all over, including Scottish, Japanese, American, and Irish whiskeys. If you can, come to Stone Street in the warmer months so you can sit outside, as they usually have tents and tables for each bar.

To get to Stone St. in the Financial District, the closest subway station is Whitehall St., which can be reached by either the R or W. However, feel free to take a quick Uber from Maison Kayser, as it’s just a 10 minute ride away.

If you can come here when it's warm, the narrow, cobblestone Stone Street is lined up with tents and tables from every bar on the block – the perfect setup to go bar hopping.
